Speaking at the launch of the upcoming eighth Cork Craft Month, Chairman of Cork Craft & Design, Tony Farrell, expressed his excitement and appreciation to all involved, commenting: “We are enormously grateful to all of our sponsors, including Cork Enterprise Board, Cork City and County Councils, Fáilte Ireland and the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland, without whom it would not be possible to organise an annual event series of this scale. On behalf of the members of Cork Craft & Design I want to extend a warm welcome to all who will grace the doors of our 2017 exhibitions and events. Entering into its eighth year, Cork Craft Month has grown and evolved, now working in a wonderful symbiosis with an abundance of talented craftspeople, who use their ingenuity and skills to produce exquisite craft products throughout Cork. We invite the public to join with us in celebrating the diversity of craft available to view, buy, see, collect, touch and simply enjoy.
“This month long festival features open studio days and workshops and the brand-new ‘Meet the Makers’ aspect of Cork Craft Month is hoped to create a mutually enjoyable and educational experience for the public and craftspeople alike. It is a unique opportunity to gain personalised insight into the craft world in Cork. Local artists are happy to welcome visitors and discuss their work, inspirations and techniques. Or why not follow the ‘Made in Cork Trail’, a suggested map of all the best places to purchase Cork-made craft in the city and county?” concluded Mr. Farrell.
There is a selection of workshops and demonstrations taking place for both adults and children alike as part of the programme. You can pick up a copy of the 2017 programme at any of Cork Craft Month event venues throughout August or for the full schedule of events, check out Facebook\corkcraftdesign. About Cork Craft & Design
Cork Craft Month is organised by Cork Craft & Design (CCD) a voluntary organisation of over 100 Cork-based craftspeople. As an umbrella group for professional craft makers in Cork, their goal is to make Cork city and county a recognised centre of excellence for making, seeing, collecting, buying and learning about contemporary craft.
The Cork craft industry sector includes ceramics, glass, jewellery, textiles, furniture and much more. Cork craft businesses are mainly small in scale and geographically widespread. The industry is a significant employer, providing viable, sustainable enterprises around the county, including in rural communities deemed unsuitable by other manufacturing sectors.
