It's after Met Éireann issued a Status Yellow Weather Warning as high winds and heavy rain are expected due to the combination of a vigorous Atlantic weather system and the remnants of Hurricane Ophelia which will pass close to Ireland.

Forecasters say there is a lot of uncertainty as to the exact evolution and movement of this weather system during the coming four days, but storm-force winds, outbreaks of heavy rain, and very high seas are threatened.

The weather warning will remain in place from 6am next Monday until 6am next Tuesday.

The AA is reminding motorists to drive at speeds suitable to the conditions, allow additional distance between themselves and other vehicles and to be aware of vulnerable road-users.
