Arlene Foster Says United Ireland Won't Happen In Her Lifetime
In an interview with the Financial Times, the former DUP leader says the North is "much better off" within the UK than in the Republic
She's also criticised the direction of the DUP, under new leader Edwin Poots, saying they're "regressing and becoming more narrow".
During the week, Mr Poots said relationships with the Irish government are "really, really bad".
John Downing, Political columnist for the Irish Independent, says unionism is on shaky ground:
"Normally a new leader gets some kind of a honeymoon, some kind of a bounce. This man has seen the party's support levels, according to opinion polls, halve what they were in their last electoral outing. He appeals only to the old, traditional, DUP base."
