Bionic suit sample to be built in Cork

The first sample of a bionic suit hoped to revolutionise the lives of older people will be built in Cork. The University of Limerick has been awarded a quarter of a million euro to develop an 'exoskeleton' for the elderly over the next three years. The initial sample will be built at MTD Limited in Little Island in the next 6 to 9 months and will then be tested. Ireland has around 650 thousand people over the age of 65 at the moment, and the older population worldwide is expected to double by 2050. Senior Lecturer in Ergonomics and Human factors at the University of Limerick, Leonard O'Sullivan, describes how the exoskeleton works. Click the PLAY button to hear.
