Bus Éireann issue new figures of the new Patrick's St car ban

This initiative, which was introduced on March 27th, was designed to support bus services and improve traffic flows.

According to Bus Éireann analysis there has been a reduction in travel time since it's introduction.

The analysis from April 2nd to April 6th - excluding the Easter schools break when traffic is reduced - shows Route 205 (CIT to Kent Station) has seen up to an 18% reduction in travel time.

Route 208 (Lotabeg to Curraheen) has seen up to 13% reduction in travel time in the Bishopstown / Curraheen Road direction and a 28% reduction in travel time has been recorded in the Mayfield / Boherboy Road direction.

The firm says further analysis is needed but the public transport prioritisation measures offer real opportunity to reduce delays to scheduled timetables, and Bus Éireann has echoed the calls of Cork City Council to give the new system a chance so a proper assessment can be made.

However traders say their business have been witnessed a significant decline in turnover since the introduction of the ban.

Speaking to RedFM News Richard Jacobs of Idahoe Café says footfall drops off after 3pm when the ban comes into effect.
