Calls for fast tracking of citizenship for non national healthcare workers
Non national healthcare workers should have their citizenship fast tracked by the Minister for Justice.
Non national healthcare workers should have their citizenship fast tracked by the Minister for Justice, according to Senator Fiona O'Loughlin.
The Fianna Fail rep says around a quarter of the essential health staff in Ireland are migrants, and that it's not enough to just pay tribute to people like Mariter Tarugo, the nurse who passed away after testing positive for Covid on Christmas Eve.
Senator O'Loughlin wants proper action taken for the thousands of non national nurses.
"About 6,000 of Mariter's compatriots work as nurses in Irish hospitals, and our healthcare system could not function without them.
"We have to recognise the contribution that these hard working people make.
"And that contribution should be reflected in the processing, quickly, of their citizenship applications."
