Calls For Review of Flood Relief Design by Dutch Engineers

Calls have been made for a design review by Dutch engineers of the multi-million euro flood relief project planned for Cork city.

It was one of the calls that emerged from two human chain protests that were held in the city over the weekend.

The Save Cork City campaign mounted the demonstration in a bid to raise awarness about what they claim are flaws in the €150 million Lower Lee Relief scheme.

The campaign has been come under fire however from some local business owners who say any delay in implementing the project will be detrimental to business in the city.

Meanwhile the OPW have issued a statement in response to some of the claims made by the group and say their suggestion of a tidal barrage is unrealistic as it would cost in the region of €400 million and the use of more glass walls is also not ideal as they can become shabby looking have known to become damaged.

Polly Magee of Magee Creedon Architects is one of the members of the Save Cork City group and speaking to RedFM News she says there needs to be more public involvement:
