Calls For Stricter Penalties For Illegal Dumping In City Centre

A City Councillor is calling for stricter penalties on those who dump household waste in Cork's Inner City.

Councillor John Sheehan says long term solutions are needed amid rampant amounts of dumping on Dublin Street and Thomas Davis Street in Blackpool.

Locals are calling for the installation of CCTV in areas of chronic dumping and greater fines for offenders.

The City Council has estimated that the cost of street cleaning is in excess of €7 million euro and residents are frustrated that some are using it as a free rubbish collection service.
