Concern has been expressed at the volume of rubbish on two beaches in East Cork.

Transition year students in Midleton collected five tonnes of rubbish from Ballybranagan and Ballycroneen strands as part of An Taisce’s Clean Coasts programme.

The Irish Examiner reports that among the haul was 114 dumped tyres and a Chinese fridge-freezer and 137 bags of rubbish,

The rubbish has been removed by Cork County Council.
