Consultant Fears Cork Could be Waiting 10 Years Before New Hospital Opens
A consultant in emergency medicine says he fears that Cork could be waiting more than a decade before a new hospital is open in the city.
Dr Chris Luke, a consultant in emergency medicine at Cork University and the Mercy Hospitals was reacting to the details of the Ireland 2040 plan which include two new hospitals for Cork.
Under the plan the city is to get a new acute hospital to deal with serious health cases, along with a hospital that will deal only with scheduled operations.
Speaking to RedFM News Dr Luke says while he welcomes the plan, the hospital system is overwhelmed now and a more robust plan needs to be put in place to cope with the demands placed on it.
