Cork city has highest rate of male self harm in the country
New figures have revealed Cork city has the highest rate of male self harm in the country.
Last year 402 men in Cork were recorded as self harming - more than twice the national average.
The National Suicide Research Foundation say young men in their late teens and men between 35 and 40 are most at risk, with suicide rates increasing in Cork from 11.3% to 12.4% in 2016.
Despite the figures remaining high across the city, the report also revealed this number is still lower than the aftermath of the Celtic Tiger, when the figure soared to 15.5%.
Speaking to RedFM News Professor Ella Arensman of the National Suicide Research Foundation says she believes the numbers in Cork will continue to improve:
