Cork Creches Welcome Increase In Community Childcare Subvention

Cork's Early Childcare crisis has been given a reprieve ahead of the new term.

It comes seven creches across the city were on the brink of closing following changes to legislation, lack of funding and the introduction of the Single Affordable Childcare scheme.

The centres in Togher, Ballypheahane, Shandon, Mayfield, Ballyvolane, Mahon and Churchfield, all provide early intervention to some of the city's most vulnerable children under the age of three.

Following meetings with the Minister for Children Katherine Zappone, the Government have provided funds to ensure these creches do not have to close.
