Cork Had The Highest Number Of Work Related Fatalities Over A 10 Year Period
That shocking statistic was revealed today- International day for those injured or killed in the workplace
Between 2008 and 2017 - 501 people were killed in Ireland due to work activity with many thousands more seriously injured.
Cork was the county with the highest number of fatalities - with 90 recorded in that time period.
Just over half of these occurred in the agriculture, forestry and fishing sector.
The workplace fatality figures for Cork show that 2008 and 2011 were the worst years, with 13 people killed in the workplace during both those years.
The Health and Safety Authority is encouraging organisations to mark the day with awareness raising initiatives.
