Cork man hands command of the naval ship LÉ James Joyce to another Cork man
Lt Cdr Donnchadh Cahalane from Dunmanway takes over from Lt Cdr Mike Brunicardi, who is originally from Fermoy but now living in Kinsale, following a socially distant ceremony.
Mike Brunicardi was in charge of the ship during a diplomatic visit to London, during maritime defence and security operations and most recently in support of the effort to combat Covid-19.
He will now take up onshore duties.
Donnchadh Cahalane takes charge of the ship for the next two years, having previously served as a naval press officer, and says he is looking forward to the honour and challenge the role will bring.
