Cork people are spend 37% of their income on rent
More than 90% of homes for rent beyond reach for people dependent on state housing benefits.
A study by the Simon Communities in Ireland has found the number of rental properties has dropped dramatically and there's an increasing gap between rent supplement limits and prices.
The figures which were issued by auctioneers Sherry Fitzgerald also found that Cork is among the most expensive cities in the world for rent as a percentage of income, just below London and above Amsterdam..
National Spokesperson Niamh Randall says their findings make for grim reading.
