County Council Seek Tenders For New Dog Shelter
Cork County Council is developing a new re-homing service for stray dogs.
The Irish Examiner reports that the council are seeking tenders for a kennelling service for strays that will make it easier for dog owners to be reunited with lost pets or rehome a dog in need of a forever home.
The service will work in tandem with dog wardens and the successful winner of the bid will also have to provide a Facebook or website page showing pictures and details of the animals online.
The Councils Chief Veterinary Officer said 86% of dogs brought to the pound were reunited with their owners, amounting to a happy ending for approximately 540 animals.
