CIT defended the money spent on the event for their retiring president Dr Brendan Murphy
Cork Institute of Technology has been asked by the Dail Public Accounts Committee to explain why €13,000 was spent on a banquet for it's retiring president
The expenditure was incurred as students at the college are struggling for assistance however CIT defended the cost saying Dr Brendan Murphy had a long and distinguished career at the college
The Chair of the Public Accounts Committe Sean Fleming is to write to the college seeking answers after the amount spent on the event was first revealed in the Evening Echo.
He says the money could have been put to better use by investing in a hardship fund for students
