Defence Forces staff getting combat training before they've been properly vetted
The vetting process has been described as too slow
Lead army personnel are resorting to Googling prospective recruits as a background check.
It means new troops have explosives and advanced weaponry training before it's known if they have a criminal record or gang connections.
The Defence Forces are trying to address the large amount of troops leaving, TD Brendan Smith says that needs to be dealt with.
