Domestic Violence helpline calls for regional emergency shelter
Four calls a day were logged last year to a West Cork Domestic Violence helpline.
The Bantry based West Cork Women Against Violence Project commissioned a new study which found that victims of domestic abuse in their area were generally older women, employed and well educated.
The Someone to Turn To, Somewhere to Go report highlights the need for a regional emergency shelter and for longer opening hours for a vital crisis support service.
Marie Mulholland from the West Cork Against Violence project told RedFM News that the geographic make up of West Cork can heighten the sense of isolation and fear that some women live in with their children.
