Education Officials Understood To Be Preparing Contingency Plans For The Leaving Cert

Ministers says it's their 'firm intention' that the exams go ahead as planned, despite the cancellation of the GCSE and A-level exams in England. 

A meeting between the Department of Education and stakeholders is due to take place next week, where delaying project work, orals and written exams will be considered. 

Guidance Counsellor and Education Expert Brian Mooney says there's a question mark over how ready students will be: 

"Problem is, whether students will be prepared and whether there will be equity in the system because of obviously the IT requirements for students to be supported at home, depending on what area of the country they're living in, or where the teachers themselves will have the IT capacity."
