Families urged to talk about organ donation
One organ donor can save the lives of up to 8 people.
That's according to the Cork Branch of the Irish Kidney Association ahead of organ donor awareness week, which runs from the 1st to the 8th of April.
Last year 280 organ transplants were carried out in Ireland, 230 of these were as a result of the generosity of families of deceased donors, and 50 from living kidney donors.
Two years ago Aimee Louise Fenton from Midleton received a life saving kidney transplant from a living donor.
Speaking to RedFM News Aimee's Mum Michelle Fenton stressed how important carrying a donor card is for families faced with life threatening situations:
