Firm Behind Orkambi Respond to Letter from Cystic Fibrosis Ireland

Vertex has called on the Health Minister to intervene directly after the HSE declared that it won't fund the drug

The company behind the Cystic Fibrosis drug Orkambi has appealed to the Health Minister to intervene directly after the HSE declared that it won't fund the drug as it's too expensive.

In response to a letter sent to Vertex by Cystic Fibrosis Ireland the company says it's surprised and disappointed to learn that the HSE is not recommending Orkambi for CF treatment.

CF sufferers say the drug, which was licencsed over 12 months ago, has changed their lives.

Vertex says the drug was licensed over a year ago and the firm had hoped that an agreement was within reach.

The company has appealed to Minister Simon Harris to intervene in the interests of patients, clinicians and industry.
