Fishermen On Cape Clear Island Say They Cannot Wait A Week For The Harbour Storm Gates To Be Repaired

A hydraulic arm on the €4.3m storm gates malfunctioned on Wednesday morning trapping the Cape Clear Ferry and a number of fishing vessels inside the harbour.

The Department of the Marine has responsibility for the gates however, the Evening Echo reports that the Department does not yet have a timeline for completing repair works but it's believed it could take a week to source the oil needed to repair the arm.

Local fishermen say by the time the gates are fixed they will have missed a weekends fishing.

Meanwhile Cape Clear Ferry Service say they have returned to full service after two passenger vessels were sourced from Whale Watchers Ireland and another operator.
