Future of the Events Centre expected to be revealed

The future of the Events Centre is expected to become known, one way or the other, after crunch talks this week. 

It's understood BAM and Live Nation are to be made aware of the legal and financial limitations and based on this it's expected they'll make a decision whether or not the stalled 6,000-seat venue is viable. 

An initial €20 million in public funding was awarded to the project however following a detailed internal re-design developers requested an additional €18 million in state support.

The Irish Examiner reports that legal advisers have prepared advice on how much extra funding the State can commit before the process is open to legal challenge - however that figure has not been made public.

Frustration at the delays is mounting amongst businesses in the city centre who are hoping the facility will boost trade. 

Speaking to RedFM News city centre co-ordinator Paul McGuirk says the City Council has been doing everything in its power to liaise with all the stakeholders but the economic viability analysis will give a better indication of its future:
