Garda investigation launched to coincide with the clean up of Ellis' Yard

A garda investigation has been launched to coincide with the clean up of a notorious dump on the northside of the city. 

Contractors moved on to the Ellis’s yard site in Ballyvolane yesterday to clean the area and it's expected aound 200 tonnes of waste will have to be removed. 

It's understood the waste is a mix of domestic, building and hazardous waste, including exposed asbestos.

Any materials which could identify those behind the illegal dumping will be passed on to gardaí who it's believed are already investigating licence plates. 

The clean-up operation, which will involve the installation of CCTV, is expected to cost in the region of €50,000 on top of the 
€184,000 that has already been spent on cleanups in Ellis's Yard since 2008.
