Gardaí have issued fines to three people for non-essential journeys in Cork

One man was 200 kilometres from his home

These latest fines follow a highly publicised case involving seven men last weekend who were fined in Kinsale after they had travelled outside their 5km

When the men arrived into the town in taxis, they proceeded to buy alcohol before checking into a house they had rented.

More than 30 fines were issued by Gardaí to drivers in breach of travel restrictions in the West Cork Division on Sunday.

Gardaí from Ballincollig issued three fines during the most recent Operation Fanacht checkpoint on the M8 at Glanmire.

One man was fined for driving over 200 kilometres to collect a puppy as a present for someone.

Another man was delivering an item he had sold over social media and was more than 70 kilometres from home.

A third man was an essential journey of over 70 kilometres, however the passenger he had with him was from a different household and was just along for the spin.

The passenger was fined for being more than 5 kilometres from their home on a non-essential journey.

Gardaí are appealing for people to play their part during this challenging time and say people must ask themselves if their journey is essential when they sit into their car.
