Hope That Restoration Of International Travel On 19th July Give Businesses Operating In Cork Airport Boost Needed To Reopen

The airport has experienced a 97% decline in passenger numbers since the onset of the pandemic

That's according to Kevin Cullinane, the Head of Communications at Cork Airport.

Speaking to RedFM News, Kevin Cullinane says that, as passenger numbers increase, it is hoped more and more of those who worked for the companies operating in Cork airport will return:

"Well a lot of people who work for companies that operate at Cork Airport have been furloughed. The truth is, most of our concessionaires, our food and beverage retail outlets, our banks, our currency exchange, all of them have been closed now for 14 months. Obviously, they need footfall. Less than 50 passengers a day go through the airport in recent months, and the 97% decline in passenger numbers. They need to see significant numbers returning for them to have the confidence to restart their businesses. So again, as things gradually improve we hopefully will see more and more of our colleagues working for the companies that operate at Cork airport returning to work."
