Housing Minister Under Fire On Social Housing
5,000 new homes are to be built by local authorities including 249 in Cork City and 235 in the county
The Housing Minister is under fire after the target he gave the country's local authorities on social housing numbers is significantly lower than social housing waiting lists
Nearly 26,000 social housing solutions will be provided this year with nearly 5,000 new homes to be built by local authorities, including 249 in Cork City and 235 in the county
However the latest available figures from Cork City and County Council show that there are 11,925 people on the housing list with 7,316 in the county and 4,609 on the city council waiting list
Minister Eoghan Murphy says the country's local authorities and housing bodies have a very ambitious work programme of building under the Government's Rebuilding Ireland programme, which, through building, acquisition, and leasing, is going to bring 50,000 social housing homes on stream by 2021.
