The utility company named Cork's new priority bus measures as part of the reason for delaying the works on water pipes replacement.
The project costing 20 million euro would involve doing works on old and damaged pipes, some dating back to the 1900s.
However Irish Water has confirmed the plans have been put on hold following talks with city hall and wishes to minimise disruption to businesses in the area.
