Keeping Paramedics in Jobs Proving Difficult
Attracting and retaining paramedics is proving challenging as a direct result of the low rates of pay and dangers they face in their daily jobs.
That's according to the National Ambulance Service Representative Association which was responding to an attack on a Cork based paramedic which was aired on the TV3 show Paramedics last night..
Imelda O'Shea was initially abused by a drunken man as she attends a 999 call and as the Gardai are called to the scene for assistance she is physically attacked by a drunken passer-by..
The paramedics union says this is typical of the dangers they face on a daily basis.
Speaking to RedFM News Michael Dixon of the union says austerity has had a major negative impact on paramedics pay and conditions..
