Local government structure in Cork looks set to undergo a dramatic transformation
That's if new proposals in the MacKinnon report are given the green light
Cork County Council called for a further extension to the Cork City Council area of jurisdiction last Friday.
It's after the MacKinnon Review group issued a recommendation to extend the city boundary instead of merging both Cork City and County Council in June.
Meanwhile the City's Lord Mayor says he believes the MacKinnon Group did its best to take the interests of the public on board despite calls for changes to the recommendations.
Concern had been expressed about a lack of public consultation however speaking to RedFM News Lord Mayor Cllr Tony Fitzgerald says he believes the report as it is focuses on the needs of the people.
