Lord Mayor Committed To MacKinnon Report
Our commitment to the MacKinnon Review is solid.
Those are the words of the City's Lord Mayor Cllr Tony Fitzgerald who was speaking after a special meeting of the city council rejected proposals by the county council on a more limited city boundary.
Chief Executive Ann Doherty presented a detailed report on the County Council's proposals and reminded councillors that the MacKinnon review warns that a "minimalist expansion" would only have moderate benefits and would not be a long term sustainable solution.
City Councillors have urged her to continue engaging with the oversight committee group to implement the findings of the review.
The Lord Mayor says the city needs to grow to 500,000 otherwise it will lose competitive advantage and fall behind Dublin and Belfast.
Speaking to RedFM News after the meeting the Lord Mayor outlined his concerns about the limited boundary extension.
