Lord Mayor says he would be opposed to plans for student accommodation in the Lough
The Lord Mayor says he wouldn't be in favour of plans to build a student accommodation centre near the Lough.
Residents mounted a protest in opposition to plans for a 350-bed high rise student accommodation development which was proposed on a piece of land sold by the parish.
RedFM News recently learned that the Parish Finance Council agreed to sell the piece of land after discussing the sale in the light of the needs of the parish in terms of necessary repairs, falling income and a declining population.
However residents claim they were only informed of the sale after the deal was done, and they have expressed concerns that the project will impact negatively on the area and users of the Lough.
Speaking to RedFM News Lord Mayor Cllr Des Cahill says he doesn't think student accommodation will be a good fit for the area:
