New Report From Simon Communities Shows 91% Of Properties Beyond Reach Of Those On HAP Scheme
91% of rental properties are beyond the reach of people dependent on state housing benefits.
A new report from the Simon Communities shows people are being locked out of the private rental sector as just 9% of homes available to rent were within the criteria for rent supplement and HAP payments.
The average monthly rent in Cork city now stands at €1100 while rents in the county average over €800 and the increase in state benefits last year is not keeping pace with rent rises.
Simon Communities Niamh Randall, says people experiencing homelessness need to be a top priority for the government:
