Nine Weapons Were Seized In Cork Prison In The First Half Of The Year.
The Echo reports prison officers discovered drugs 23 times and found 9 mobile phones.
Last year staff seized 27 phones, made 65 drug seizures and discovered 19 weapons.
Rudimentary weapons are often made by melting a razor blade to the top of a toothbrush.
The Irish Prison Service says intercepting contraband remains a high priority.
