Overcrowding In Hospitals Will Continue Unless Step down Facilities & Transitional Beds Introduced
The provision of step down facilities and transitional beds in Cork are essential in order to ease the overcrowding crisis.
That’s according to Cork GP Dr John Sheehan who says unless this issue is tackled, overcrowding in hospitals across the city will continue at record levels into the winter.
Earlier this week 81 patients were treated on trolleys in Cork University Hospital and the Mercy University Hospital leading to severe delays.
The Blackpool based GP says the overcrowding situation is further compounded by a reduction in the bed capacity across the city in recent years combined with a lack of manpower.
Speaking to RedFM News Dr John Sheehan says the benefits of extra beds far outweighs the cost incurred by the HSE;
