Plans are afoot in an East Cork town to clamp down on motorists abusing parking laws

Calls have been made for a traffic warden to be deployed in Midleton, targeting motorists who are abusing the two hour parking limit on the town's main street.

Concern has been expressed that those working in the town are occupying main street car parking spaces on a daily basis leaving little or no spaces for potential shoppers.

Meanwhile it's feared the situation is having an knock on effect for traffic which has been described as chaotic due to people double parking on the main street.

Fine Gael Councillor Susan McCarthy put the proposal before the County Council and is calling for further parking spaces to be made for the town centre of Midleton.

Speaking to RedFM News, Cllr Susan McCarthy says the introduction of fines may deter people from abusing the system.
