Plans To Extend The Tourist Shop At Blarney Castle Have Been Approved By An Bord Pleanála

This is despite an objection over the safety of visitors

The appeal against the decision to grant planning was based on a number of alleged 'near misses' between pedestrians and motorists at the corner between the castle estate and Blarney Woolen Mills.

An Bord Pleanála accepted that manoeuvrability of vehicles in the area is tight but ruled the development was suitable for the area.

Fáilte Ireland estimates that 450,000 people visited Blarney Castle in 2017.
