Mother And Baby Homes Report Shows How Far Short Ireland Came In Fulfilling Promise Of A Republic
Michael D Higgins has made a statement following the release of the Mother and Baby Homes report
In a statement, he said the focus now should be on meeting the needs of the survivors and to support them in any way.
The report outlined that 9,000 children died in 18 of these institutions between the 1920s and 1990s, and has recommended a redress scheme and access to birth certs for survivors.
President Higgins said the country should never forget the pain that was created by "such judgement and deprivation of care"
