Residents And School Children Stage Protest At The Waterloo Junction Over It's Proposed Closure
County Council and Transport Infrastructure Ireland are considering closing the junction
That's local Blarney resident Maurice Pinfield who says the closure of Waterloo junction has resulted in increased traffic and danger on secondary routes approaching Blarney, which are not able to cope with the traffic volumes.
He's one of 100 people who turned out to protest at the closure of the junction which was blocked off after a number of fatal collisions.
However locals say the impact on the town has been devastating and it's splitting the community with fears now mounting for parents who say they'll struggle to get their children to schools in the locality.
A petition has been signed by over 600 people calling for the reopening of the junction and those attending the protest today are calling for an oral hearing.
Speaking to RedFM News local woman and chairperson of the Whitechurch parents association Cliona Brown says the sudden closure is simply not good enough:
