Taoiseach Accused Of Not Valuing Marymount Hospice

Fianna Fail's Micheal Martin levelled the accusation at the Taoiseach and said the hospice is under "unsustainable financial strain"

The Taoiseach has been accused of not valuing the contribution hospices like Marymount in Bishopstown make to society...

The Fianna Fail leader Micheal Martin made the accusation during Leader's Questions in Dail where he raised what he described as the "unsustainable financial strain" Marymount hospice is under.

He says the hospice has had to cut salaries and staff, cancel community visits and is currently examining the possible closure of speciality palliative care beds due to financial constraints.

The Cork TD has called on the Taoiseach to consider allowing hospices to operate under the public service umbrella and enjoy the benefits of state funding and pay parity among healthcare workers.

Deputy Martin says it's time the Government took immediate action on the matter while the Taoiseach says he's open to discussions but outlined the impact it will have
