The MacKinnon report needs to be implemented for the city to grow economically
That's according to the Chief Executive of the City Council who addressed the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Housing earlier this week
The city council currently has the capacity to deliver 18,000 housing units over the next few years and the expansion of city boundary is essential for the delivery of more housing.
The population of the city has increased by 5% since 2011 and the extension of the city boundary will see the population increase by a further 100,000.
Speaking to RedFM News, Chief Executive of Cork City Council Pat Ledwidge says the council cannot meet the housing demand due to the scarcity of land within the existing boundary.
