The RSA Announces New Legislation To Tackle Drivers Test Backlog
The wait time at Skibbereen is up to 26 weeks
The RSA says new legislation, which aims to tackle unaccompanied drivers, is contributing to the huge numbers of people waiting to take their driving test.
83,000 people are on the list, with West Cork holding the record for the longest wait time for a driving test in the country.
The wait time at Skibbereen is 26 weeks and the RSA says their target is to achieve an average wait time of 10 weeks.
The RSA says, it's hiring new testers to tackle the backlog, with ten people starting next week.
Head of the Road Safety Authority Moyagh Murdock says some people are only applying for their test to renew their learner permit.
