Two Cork Firms On Watch List By Environmental Agency
Two Cork firms which appeared on a list of the country's worst polluters say that their breaches resulted from mechanical failures and plant malfunctions
The Environmental Protection Agency placed Carbery Food Ingredients in Ballineen and the Dairy Gold plant in Mallow on a watch list of the country's worst performers in relation to environmental compliance.
They've been named as 'national priority sites' by the EPA, due to the number of incidents, complaints and compliance issues at the facilities.
However when contacted by RedFM News Carbery says an unexpected mechanical failure at their Ballineen facility in July resulted in the company temporarily breaching its emissions limits. They say the issue was immediately addressed and swiftly resolved by the company
Dairygold says a plant malfunction in May led to their breach relating to intermittent odours from their wastewater treatment plant in Mallow. The company says they undertook a review of the plant and implemented a programme of works to alleviate the odour issue.
