Two Men Who Saved A Young Cork Sailor From Drowning Have Been Recognised For Their Actions
Simon Hoffman from Australia and Santiago Alegre from Spain received a special bravery award at the Irish Sailing Awards in Dublin's RDS on Friday night.
The pair were honoured for their rescue of then 17 year old Johnny Durcan from Crosshaven, who became trapped when his skiff dinghy capsized during a race in Long Beach, California.
Simon and Santiago were invited to Ireland by the Irish Sailing Association and visited Cork last week.
Speaking to RedFM News, Johnny's father Tom Durcan says the awards are well deserved
