Golden Globe nominations for Brendan Gleeson, Normal People and Wolfwalkers

The nominations for this year's Golden Globe Awards have been announced this afternoon and it's a good day for the Irish!

Brendan Gleeson has been nominated for his portrayal of former US President Donald Trump in The Comey Rule (he should win just for the resemblance alone!) in the "Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television". Gleeson will be up against John Boyega for "Small Axe", Daniel Levy for "Schitt's Creek", Jim Parsons for "Hollywood" and Donald Sutherland for "The Undoing".

Irish drama Normal People has also been recognised in the nominations with the overall series being nominated in the "Best Television Limited Series of Motion Picture Made for Television" category as well as lead actress Daisy Edgar Jones for her role as Marianne in the "Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or Motion Picture made for Television" category. Normal People will be aiming to beat "The Queen's Gambit", "Small Axe", "The Undoing" and "Unorthodox" to claim the award while Daisy Edgar Jones will be in contest against Cate Blanchett in "Mrs America", Shira Haas in "Unorthodox", Nicole Kidman in "The Undoing" and Anya Taylor-Joy in "The Queen's Gambit".

Further Irish representation can be found in the "Best Motion Picture - Animated" category with "Wolfwalkers" created by Cartoon Saloon. Wolfwalkers faces competition from "The Croods: New Age", "Onward", "Over The Moon" and "Soul".

This year's lifetime achievement award will go to Jane Fonda for her outstanding contribution to the industry.

The 78th Golden Globe Awards will be presented by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler on Sunday February 28th.
