Almost 50% Of Complaints Over Social Welfare From Ombudsman Between 2015 & 2018 Upheld

That figure comes following a report by Peter Tyndall

Almost half of the 108 complaints relating to social welfare received by the Ombudsman between 2015 and 2018 were upheld.

Peter Tyndall's report found that there were "inconsistencies" across the country as to how overpayments were dealt with, with some people being placed in 'extreme poverty' by the recovery of the debts. 

In one case a man found out he owed 17 thousand euro when he applied for an invalidity pension in 2016.
