CAO system set to include apprenticeships alongside traditional college courses
Munster Technological University here in Cork is is welcoming the launch
he move is contained in a new plan that also aims to diversify many traditional apprenticeships that have been dominated by men.
Employers will be given payments for taking on apprentices and extra money if they come from diverse backgrounds.
Junior Minister Niall Collins says apprenticeships will be easier to apply for alongside degree courses:
"Ultimately, when we ended this journey, a one stop shop and a streamline system at the centre of our further and higher education system would be hugely beneficial for people who are considering an apprenticeship as a real rewarding career pathway and option. We've said so many times if you want to destigmatise apprenticeships and it has been seen as the poor relation for far too long."
