Cork Child Abuse Survivor Calls For Overhaul Of Redress Scheme

Louise O'Keeffe wants a change to the redress scheme for people sexually abused in national schools
The scheme was set up after the European Court of Human Rights ruled in 2014 that the State was liable for abuse by Louise O'Keeffe's teacher at Dunderrow School in Kinsale in the 1970's.
A judge has concluded that the State has misinterpreted a ruling by the European Court of Human Rights and in doing so has denied victims of child sexual abuse access to the redress scheme to which they are entitled.
The compensation scheme has paid nothing to survivors and applicants have sharply criticised it.
Last summer the Dáil voted that they should no longer have to prove that their abuser had already been reported to the authorities for similar crimes before he abused them.
Speaking to RedFM News Louise O'Keeffe is urging the Taoiseach and Education Minister to apologise in the Dail to victims denied access to scheme:
