Cuts in pay and conditions for Bus Eireann staff

Bus Eireann is to implement a 5 million euro cost cutting plan that see huge reductions in pay and conditions for staff. The company - which had been facing losses of 11 million euro - agreed to implement the cuts after talks at the Labour Court. Under the terms of the deal overtime rates will be reduced, the working week for clerical staff will increase from 36 to 39 hours, shift rates will be cut and staff will loose three days annual leave over the next three years. Bus Eireann spokesman Andrew McLindon says the trade unions involved did not bring any alternatives to cut costs to the talks table.
